A color change wrap is the fastest way to completely transform your car, truck or SUV. A thin, premium vinyl film goes over your factory paint, giving you a whole new color and finish, from deep gloss to stealthy matte to colors that shift as you walk around the car. And unlike paint, it’s not permanent.
The right wrap comes down to a few choices: the film, the color and finish, and whether you wrap the whole vehicle or just a few panels. At MarxModified AutoStyling in Wilmington, DE, we only install premium wrap films from Avery Dennison, 3M, KPMF and ORAFOL, so your wrap looks like paint, holds up to the weather, and comes off cleanly when it’s time for a change.
Here’s what you’ll find below:
- Wrap vs. paint: how they compare on cost, time and flexibility.

Car wrap vs. paint
A quality paint job and a quality wrap can both look incredible, but they’re very different commitments.
| Color change wrap | New paint job | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | $3,000+ | $10,000+ |
| Time off the road | 1–2 weeks | About a month |
| Reversible | Yes, it can be removed | No, it’s permanent |
| Factory paint | Protected underneath | Replaced |
| Resale | Original paint stays original | A non-factory color can lower resale value |
Full wraps, partial wraps and more
- Full color change: every painted exterior panel gets the new color, for a complete transformation.
- Partial wraps: a gloss black roof, a contrasting hood or a wrapped trunk lid. A great way to add style for less, or to test a color before going all in.
- Chrome delete: cover the chrome window trim and grille in gloss or satin black for a cleaner, more modern look.
- Custom printed wraps: your own design, livery or graphics printed and installed, for a car that’s truly one of a kind.

The wrap films we install
We only wrap with premium cast films from four of the most trusted names in the industry. Cast film is made to stretch around curves and hold its shape, so it looks like paint and stays put on bumpers, mirrors and body lines. We wrap with Avery Dennison, 3M, KPMF and ORAFOL, and we pick the brand for each job based on the color and finish you want.

How long does a car wrap last?
Wrap film makers rate their films from about 5 to 12 years, depending on the color and finish. Specialty finishes like metallics and color shift are usually rated shorter than standard colors. How long your wrap actually lasts comes down to three things:
- Sun exposure: the hood, roof and trunk take the most sun and wear faster than the sides. A garage or covered parking makes a big difference.
- The film: premium cast films like the ones we use last far longer than cheap calendered vinyl.
- Care: a wrap that’s washed regularly and kept clean of bird droppings, sap and fuel will look better for longer.
Car wrap aftercare
- Hand wash with a pH-neutral car soap and a soft mitt. Skip automatic car washes with brushes.
- Pressure washers: keep the nozzle at least a foot away and never spray directly at the edges of the film.
- Clean messes quickly: bird droppings, tree sap, bugs and fuel spills can stain vinyl if they sit.
- Matte and satin finishes: never wax, polish or use anything abrasive. It will leave shiny spots.
- Extra protection: a ceramic coating made for vinyl makes your wrap easier to keep clean. We work with a trusted detailer who can coat your wrap after install, so just ask.
Will a wrap damage my paint?
No. A wrap applied over healthy factory paint protects it from light scratches, chips and the sun. When it’s time for a change, the film can be removed and your original paint is underneath. If your car has been repainted, or the paint is chipped or peeling, let us know before your wrap so we can talk through your options.
